Animation, Action, Adventure - TV Series 2018 (Saturday 22 December at 7pm and Sunday 23 December at 7.20pm.)
BBC One’s star-studded new adaptation of Watership Down uses Richard Adams’ bestselling novel as its source to bring an innovative interpretation to the much loved classic.
Adapted for the screen by Tom Bidwell and directed by Noam Murro, this tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of rabbits as they flee the certain destruction of their home.
The five lead rabbits of Watership Down are: Fiver (played by Nicholas Hoult), Hazel (James McAvoy), Blackberry (Miles Jupp), Bigwig (John Boyega) and Dandelion (Daniel Rigby).
However, the cast also includes Gemma Arterton (playing Clover), Olivia Colman (Strawberry), Ben Kingsley (General Woundwort), Daniel Kaluuya (Bluebell) and Rosamund Pike (Black Rabbit of Inlé).
Other roles are being voiced by Crazy Rich Asians’ Gemma Chan, The Office’s Mackenzie Crook, Kingsmen’s Taron Egerton and The Three Musketeers’ Freddie Fox.
The 1978 film, starring John Hurt, is notorious for its haunting scenes of graphic violence, which sees beloved bunny characters mercilessly killed-off — traumatising a generation of children in the process.
