The next instalment is actually a spin-off series titled “The Penguin” focusing on Colin Farrell‘s portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot. It takes place after the events of the 2022 film “The Batman” and picks up with Carmine Falcone dead and Penguin vying for control of Gotham’s criminal underworld.
While there’s no Batman in the show itself, “The Penguin” is considered part of “The Batman” saga because it shares the same director, Matt Reeves, and dark, gritty tone. Think of it as a way to delve deeper into this specific Gotham City and its supporting characters.
The trailers that have been released so far [trailer for The Penguin] show a Gotham still reeling from the flooding at the end of “The Batman.” Penguin has ambitions to rise to the top, but he’ll definitely face challenges, including Falcone’s daughter Sofia who also has her eyes on the prize.
“The Penguin” is set to premiere on the streaming service sometime in September 2024, so it won’t be long before you can see the next chapter in this Batman universe unfold.
