9YO Ezra Blount was on his dads shoulders before falling and being trampled on.

Among those injured is a nine-year-old boy said to be fighting for his life after he was trampled at the event, and a 22-year-old student has been declared brain dead.

Police in the US are investigating claims that someone in the audience at a Travis Scott concert in which eight people died in a stampede, was injecting people with drugs.

Two children aged 14 and 16 were amongst those killed when the crowd surged toward the stage when Scott appeared.

Lina Hidalgo, the county judge of Harris County, described what had happened as an “extremely tragic night”.

Johnson said fans started to crush each other, and people started screaming. He said it felt like 100 degrees in the crowd.

Scott seemed to be aware that something was going on in the crowd, but he might not have understood the severity of the situation, Johnson said.

Another criminal investigation is underway in Texas to determine what happened to cause the rush which left dozens more injured as 50,000 fans gathered for the rap star’s Astroworld event in Houston on Friday night.

The police chief said authorities were investigating reports of suspicious activity in the crowd, including a security officer who told police that he felt a prick in his neck during the chaos and lost consciousness while being examined by first responders. He was revived by the opioid antidote Narcan.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said his department noticed attendees “going down” at 9:30 p.m. and immediately notified concert organizers.

Travis took to Instagram he said was “devastated” by what had happened and urged anyone with information to contact police.

Some 50,000 people attended the outdoor event, which was called off 40 minutes later after discussions that included the fire department and officials with NRG Park.

Astroworld said in a statement that their hearts were with the “festival family… especially those we lost and their loved ones”, and they thanked local emergency services for their response.

A female concert-goer told the paper she had never been to a “music festival with so many angry people”.

Travis Scott, 30, made his big breakthrough in 2013 and had eight nominations for Grammy Awards. He has a 3-year-old daughter with Kylie Jenner, who announced in September that she’s pregnant with their second child.
